However, there was another twist in the tale as Terrell Thomas tapped home to cut the deficit to just one, before the unthinkable happened as George Dobson’s looping header evaded Christian Walton and nestled in the Town goal to send The Valley into a frenzy.
Ben Garner‘s side followed that result up with a dramatic win in the Football League Trophy over Brighton & Hove Albion’s Under-21s, which saw Jack Payne score an injury-time winner to send them through to the knockout stages of the competition.
The Addicks will fancy their chances here against non-league opposition on their own patch. They also faced non-league opposition in the competition last season, defeating Havant & Waterlooville 4-0 in the first round and then prevailing 2-0 at Gateshead.

The Ravens were 3-1 winners at Dunston UTS on Saturday as they progressed in the FA Trophy with Ashley Chambersscoring twice.
The striker was also on target in their 3-2 win over Notts County in their FA Cup fourth qualifying round match, which set up the trip to Charlton, and he has netted 15 times since joining from Buxton at the start of the campaign.
Their FA Cup run up until this point has seen Coalville dispatch Shepshed Dynamo, Macclesfield FC and AFC Sudbury before completing the upset over Notts County.
