Sixty four days on from the end of their League One season finishing, football returns for Plymouth Argyle supporters on Saturday as the Pilgrims take part in the ‘Festival of Football’ at Plymouth Parkway.

The annual event at Parkway’s Bolitho Park always offers the Green Army a chance to see new players in action – and wearing their striking new kit as well – but if you don’t have a ticket for the event then your luck is out as all tickets have already been sold for the game.

Parkway can look forward to a handsome pay cheque with a record attendance of around 2,000 expected at Bolitho Park and manager Lee Hobbs says he can’t wait to get going again after his Southern League Division One champions returned to work themselves earlier this week.

We went back in on Tuesday and had a really good session, but the boys came back in really good condition,” Hobbs said. “We have got new GPS and with the data we collected after the session, it told us that we had completed between seven and eight kilometres within the session which, for us, for a first session back, was a brilliant return.

It’s not like the old days and I think, when you go up through the levels, the mentality becomes a little bit different and players do look after themselves. One or two of them need special attention but, in the main, all of them want to look after themselves for their own vanity!

“The new lads have settled in very well, they have been on the group chat for the past few weeks, but everybody knows everybody anyway, they have all played with or against each other before, so it wasn’t like anyone was moving 300 miles and settling into a brand new dressing room.”

After the success of last season, Parkway will be aiming to surprise more than a few people in the Southern League Premier this season and the acquisitions

Hobbs has made certain suggests they are not there to make up the numbers. Former Exeter City striker Ben Seymour is arguably the stand out signing, while the likes of Austen Booth,

Theo Simpson, Tyler Ashmead, Dan Rooney and Rio Garside have also moved to Bolitho Park. All are expected to feature against the Pilgrims and Hobbs admits that he can’t wait to get back to action.
