The thrilling F1 campaign is set to come to a dramatic end this Sunday as Hamilton remarkably heads to Abu Dhabi level on points with title rival Max Verstappen.
A victory for either would mark F1 history, as the Englishman would become the most decorated driver ever in the sport by winning a record eighth championship, whilst Verstappen would pick up his very first world title.
Despite heading to the Abu Dhabi track on thin ice with the officials, Hamilton does have sympathy with the difficult job the stewards have, especially in such a fiery campaign.
Empathising with the officials, he said: “It’s such a hard job that the stewards and Micheal [Masi] have, whether you agree with them or not.
“It’s good that it’s clear that everyone knows what the rules are so that things that have happened in the past don’t happen again.”
However his arch title rival Verstappen is less than sympathetic, after complaining a number of times throughout the 2021 season about being on the end of what he believes to be unjust decisions.
When questioned on the matter, the young Dutchman gave a somewhat sarcastic response, joking that the FIA have had ‘dinners and nice wine’ on the back of the hefty fines he has paid up.

The Red Bull racer also found himself on the wrong side of the stewards at last week’s Saudi outing, after picking up two separate time penalties on his way to finishing second behind Hamilton for a third straight race.
And once again he expressed his dismay at the decision making, this time over social media as he tweeted: “Where to start? We finished 2nd, after an eventful race and a lot of things happened that I don’t fully agree with.
“I went for it on track and gave it my all. Thanks to all fans, for supporting me and voting me Driver Of The Day! On to Abu Dhabi.”
