Argyle head into their trip to Wycombe Wanderers on top of Sky Bet League One, with their hosts currently in 17th position. 

The two sides finished just one place apart last season, with Wycombe claiming the final play-off spot, three points ahead of The Pilgrims in seventh. Wanderers would go on to reach the final, but ultimately lost out to Sunderland. 

Wycombe have won three of their ten fixtures in the league this season, curiously winning two of them 3-0, against Burton Albion and Barnsley. A 1-0 win against

Accrington Stanley in Wycombe’s last home fixture is their other victory this campaign. Since then, they have lost on consecutive Saturdays, to Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday. 

Anis Mehmeti is one of two Wycombe players to have started all ten league games – defender Jack Grimmer is the other – and Mehmeti leads the goalscoring charts for the Chairboys, with five goals to his name. Midfielder David Wheeler has scored twice, while six players have scored a goal each. 

Wycombe have won the last three meetings of the teams, two of them in Buckinghamshire, with the previous three all being draws. Argyle’s last win at Adams Park was in 2015, with Reuben Reid and Jake Jervis scoring in a 2-1 win. Former Argyle forward Jason Banton scored for the home side. 

In last season’s encounter at Adams Park, Wycombe won 2-0 with Garath McCleary’s brace proving the difference between the teams. 

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth passed the ten-year mark in the job this week, and is the second longest-serving boss in the English top four divisions, behind only Simon Weaver of Harrogate.

Mickel Miller and James Bolton are expected to miss out with injuries that have prevented them from playing this season so far.

but Conor Grant pleasingly returned to the squad last week, and played the last few minutes against Ipswich Town. Niall Ennis went off injured in that game.

but on Thursday Steven Schumacher reported being hopeful that Ennis would recover in time. Brendan Galloway returns to the squad having served a one-match suspension.
