The Los Angeles Lakers have overcome a pitiful start to the season and have since established themselves as a team that needs to be taken somewhat seriously. Anthony Davis has been otherworldly over the last few games, and Russell Westbrook has found a home on the bench.

With Fred VanVleet in a big shooting slump and Toronto one date with Orlando away from a long losing streak, the urgency is starting to get dialed up a notch. In a crowded East, every win is precious, especially against teams below the .500 mark.

The Raptors active scoring leader is OG Anunoby, who averages 19.1 per contest to go with 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Fred VanVleet contributes with 16.3 points, 6.4 assists and 3.6 rebounds a game, and Scottie Barnes adds 14.5 points, five assists and 6.8 rebounds per outing.

VanVleet makes more threes per game than any other (active) member of the Raptors, knocking down shots from beyond the arc at a clip of 2.8 per contest.

Davis will not return Tuesday against the Cavaliers due to an illness, which is something he must have been dealing with that got worse when he played. While this obviously isn’t great for

those who backed Davis to have a big night when it comes to player props and DFS contests, it’s encouraging to know this isn’t a physical ailment and won’t keep the big man out for an extended period of time.

Davis was also dealing with a calf issue during this recent stretch of play, which has vaulted him to near the top of the MVP conversation early in the season.

The Lakers big man was averaging 37.8 points and 13.0 rebounds per game in the last four contests ahead of Tuesday’s game, buoyed by 44 and 55-point efforts in his last two games.

If Davis cannot return and is out for an extended period of time, the responsibility to step up falls on LeBron James and Russell Westbrook. Look for Thomas Bryant to be a fill-in center with Davis out but it’ll be nearly impossible to match the star’s production to this point.

Anunoby averages 2.3 steals per game, while Christian Koloko swats 1.2 shots per contest.
