Anthony Joshua will hope to round off 2023 in style as he faces Otto Wallin in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night as part of a stellar card.
Joshua will face Otto Wallin in the main event on fight night, with the former two-time world champion hoping to win his third fight of 2023. A win against the 33-year-old Swede could set up a stellar 2024, with potential fights against Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury being discussed for the Olympic gold medallist.
Joshua has billed the card as the best in the sport’s history, saying in the build-up to the event: “This is the best fight card in history,” he explained. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like this. Most fight cards you know, you put it on but you’re outside, you’re on the phone, you’re eating, you’re cooking and when the main event comes on you rush back to your seat. This one you want to be sat down from start to finish. Make sure you tune in.”
Anthony Joshua faces Otto Wallin on what will be a hisoric night for boxing in Saudi Arabia, with the ‘Day of Reckoning’ taking place. Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker, Daniel Dubois vs Jarrell Miller and Lyndon Arthur vs Dmitry Bivol complete a star cast in Riyadh.
Manchester’s very own Lyndon Arthur takes to the ring for the first defence of his IBO light-heavyweight title against Dmitry Bivol. He faces a quick turnaround having first won the title back in September and fights against the WBA (Super) light-heavyweight champion, who was named as Ring Magazine’s fighter of the year in 2022 after beating Canelo Alvarez.
Their fight will be the main event on the card, which sees Wilder vs Joseph Parker also taking place on what will be a historic night for the sport. Daniel Dubois also stars as he takes on Jarrell Miller before Lyndon Arthur faces Dmitry Bivol in a light-heavyweight world title fight.
Adding to the cast list, Filip Hrgovic will fight against Mark De Mori before Frank Sanchez faces Junior Fa. Both of these fights precede IBF and The Ring cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia defends his belts against Ellis Zorro. On what is set to be a huge night for the sport of boxing, here is how you can follow the action:
Despite it being a defeat, those twelve rounds have held Wallin in good standing ever since, and he has built up six wins, most recently over Murat Gassiev, to find himself facing ‘AJ.’
Joshua has two wins this year – a points win over Jermaine Franklin and knockout of Robert Helenius – that have allowed him to bounce back from losing his unified titles to Oleksandr Usyk and failing to regain them in a rematch.
Otto Wallin looks to upset the odds this weekend by defeating Anthony Joshua and ruining future plans for the heavyweight superstar.
Wallin, 33, has steadily built back following a loss to Tyson Fury in 2019 in which he cut the Brit over the eye with a punch that threatened to end the fight. Despite a valiant effort, he lost via unanimous decision.
