Hull extended their winless league run to six matches when they suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.
The Tigers have now equalled an unwanted club record of six games without scoring a goal, previously set back in 1920; they have never gone seven consecutive league matches without finding the net in their history.
Grant McCann’s men sit just outside the relegation zone on goal difference after accumulating just five points from a possible 21 available.
One positive Hull can take from recent performances is that they have kept two clean sheets in their last three games, though their form in front of goal needs to improve quickly if they are to climb away from danger.
The Tigers head into Saturday’s clash with Sheffield United after winning only two of their last 19 league meetings against them, losing 11 in the process.
Securing a much-needed victory at the KC Stadium could see McCann’s side jump seven places into 14th.
Sheffield United have also had a challenging start to the new campaign, though in recent weeks there have been signs of improvement, particularly in front of goal.
